St. Stephen’s E-News – June 15, 2020

The blessings of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Rest Upon You!

May Christ dwell in your hearts through faith;
and may you be rooted and grounded in love,
and comprehend, with the saints,
what is the breadth and length and height and depth
of the love of Christ,
so that you may be filled
with all the fullness of God.
based on Ephesians 3:17-19

VESTRY MEETING: Note the change —St. Stephen’s Vestry will meeting via Zoom on Monday, June 22, at 6:00 PM. Vestry Members will receive an email with the link to the Vestry Meeting on Sunday afternoon.

One of the goals we set for ourselves as a church this year was to establish a small pantry on the church grounds and to encourage community participation in helping keep it stocked. St. Stephen’s is located in a neighborhood that has people with significant needs and people that have been blessed economically. Sandy and Burl Hays are working on this project; beginning with researching any restrictions that city may have on placement of the little pantry.

The past several years many of you have made donations to help with this camp. This year Camp Mitchell is closed to all camps. However, the volunteers who have worked this camp in past years are going to continue their effort to break the cycle of children of incarcerated parents ending up in prison, as well. This year the camp will be taking place virtually. The plan is to send care packages to each child that contain: a Bible, books, art projects, a camp T-shirt in a backpack that can later be used for school. They also want to fund swimming lessons for children in their own communities. Counselors and session staff, who have worked with the children in past years, have volunteer to conduct online sessions with the children during the week of July 19–24. If you would like to be involved again this year, they need money for supplies and to pay for swim lessons. They also are needing people willing to write letters. I will be getting more information about the letter writing from Kristi Palmer to share with you in next week’s update.

If you would like to make a contribution to help fund their efforts, you can send a check payable to St. Stephen’s with “DJCC 2020” in the memo line. The priest’s discretionary fund will match your donations, up to $500.
